Flavorful World’s Friday Fourplay offers up a bite-sized tidbit of info on each of the four food- and drink-related things we found most interesting each week.
The Voracity: Photos for Culinary Art Buffs
Hunger takes many forms, and more than a few of those translate beautifully to visual mediums. The Voracity, a project by photographer Anna Williams, makes a fine show of blending hunger’s various facets. Having viewed but a sampling, a visual amuse bouche if you will (and you will, since I don’t know the French translation of “eye” and thus could not swap it in for the word “bouche”), of the compelling artworks contained in this volume, I can only tell you that my favorite image thus far is titled “Fill of Love” and has altered indelibly my way of looking at black licorice rope.

Apple Pie-Flavored Bacon
I actually thought this would turn out to be some sort of gag. You’d think I would have learned my lesson well enough the day I discovered an alcoholic cocktail crafted with the express purpose of tasting like a cheeseburger. But I was sure that once I clicked the link, this would turn out to be something other than exactly what it sounds like. But I’ve rarely felt so happy and intrigued to be wrong. Now, thanks to the mad pork gods at BaconFreak.com, you too can purchase bacon by the pound that when cooked, will taste exactly like a slice of apple pie (with bacon). Quite the wild card, this one. I’m honestly uncertain what to make of it just yet. If someone doesn’t work this product into an ice cream recipe soon, though, I can’t help feeling like we all lose.
Beer and Fear
Earn six the hard way with Terrapin Adventures this Sunday August 26th at 3 p.m. in Savage, MD. That’s six as in a tasting flight of six beers w/ your choice of six entrées, and the hard way as in, before you sip, you gotta zip. Nothing like an afternoon spent ziplining, tower-climbing, and rope-skipping through the treetops to work up a thirst, and that’s what you’ll be doing in this event (for which 26 openings remain at the time of this posting) that rewards hard work with copious amounts of food and ice-cold suds to be enjoyed at the Ram’s Head Tavern next door to the course. If only more things in life rewarding us in such a way.
