The Porthole

Flavor infusion never looked so good. The Porthole is here and it’s your table centerpiece.  It’s your dinner conversation starter.  It’s your window into comforting culinary realms where your only limitation is how imaginative are your flavor combinations, the looking-glass returning to you reflections of all that your infused teas and oils can be.  And it’s available now for pre-order.

Sunset Cajun Cruise + Cocktail in D.C.

For the next nine days through LivingSocial, you can book a private charter sailboat out of D.C.’s Southwest waterfront and enjoy a twilight sail around the harbor.  Serving snacks courtesy of D.C.’s Cantina Marina (salsa and chips, mini po’ boy sandwiches, and muffalettas, ahoy!) and offering a “Bring Your Own Beverage” option, the schooner American Spirit will take passengers out for 2 hours, and as part of this $49 package, deposit you back on land with a drink ticket in hand for a free margarita or Corona at Cantina Marina.  Go get your sea legs, then eat and drink until they feel like rubber.

Chicago Culinary Insiders Weekend 30th Anniversary celebration

Classes on French Artisan Breads at The French Pastry School.  Ten culinary experience tours.  Breakfast at Ina’s followed by immersion in delightfully alliterative foodie outings (the cupcake crawl, the dim sum dash).  If there’s a better way for a food lover to spend a weekend, be it in Chicago or anywhere else, I have yet to hear of it.  Les Dames d’Escoffier Chicago really know how to party, and they’re sharing that knowledge in the best way from September 7th through September 9th: through copious amounts of food and drink.  Get in on the good times here.

80’s Horror Film Villains “Ice-Scream” Pops

October is coming, which means Halloween is too.  Give Chuckie, Freddy, Jason, and other big screen baddies the licking their victims never could.  Russian ad agency STOYN has created miniature busts of the iconic characters and in true horror movie fashion, impaled them on wooden sticks for your refreshment.  Flavors include Tomato Hot Pepper, Celery Melon, Mint Blue Curacao (and the relatively innocuous by comparison “Cheesecake” flavor).  Get your ‘scream on.

*Mention of a product, good, or service in a Friday Fourplay posting should not be interpreted as an endorsement either from Anthony Beal or Flavorful World food and drink blog. Vendors are not notified ahead of time that their products/services will be featured, thus Flavorful World will at the time of posting have had no related interactions with said vendors or any sample of their products/services by which to judge them. As such, we have no idea what these vendors are like to work with, or about the quality of their merchandise and are unqualified to vouch for them as reputable. Our Friday Fourplay lists are posted in the simple spirit of our having come across something that looks and sounds engaging, and thinking that perhaps our readers will think so too; no more, no less. With that in mind, patronize these establishments and vendors at your own risk.
And here, on this, the day of our 200th post, is a video sharing what is without a doubt the coolest method of separating an egg yolk that ever was, is, or evermore shall be, brought to us from the Chinese DIY website Jifenzhong.com:
