Chickenless Plant-Based “Eggs”

Anyone who would dispute my frequent claims that ours is an  interesting time to be alive needn’t look any further than Beyond Eggs, a plant-based egg substitute (composed of sorghum, ground peas, and other ingredients) created by Hampton Creek Foods. With a mind toward reducing the environmental footprint (land, water, grain for animal feed, and fossil fuel for machinery) of raising eggs and meat , the company has also produced salad dressings and mayonnaise utilizing its egg substitute in addition to the substitute itself, which is reported to be difficult to distinguish from real eggs when used in baked goods.  Interesting, interesting times.

The Foot-Long Lobster Roll, Available this weekend ONLY

It’s succulent seasoned lobster meat on a warm roll.  It’s a foot long.  Current plans at Cull and Pistol in NYC’s Chelsea Market are for it to be around this weekend only.  And Father’s Day is this Sunday.  NYC readers who love lobster or have fathers that do, you know what to do.

Free Father’s Day Restaurant Offers

Father’s Day has been the butt of many a joke about underwhelming gifts received, however more restaurants than ever seem to be doing something about that.  This Sunday, June 16, is the day on which we’ll all take a moment to show our dads how much we appreciate them, and if there’s any truth in the adage about the way to a man’s heart, then gifts of no/low-cost food and drink at establishments like Buca di Beppo and The Spaghetti Warehouse are sure to please more than gifts of garish neckties.
