7 Great July 4th Wine and Food Events in MD, VA

So you haven’t had time to make any plans for the Fourth?

Live in/coming to the MD/VA area?

Like wine, good food, and fireworks?

Then here are a few good options for someplace to celebrate our nation’s Independence this year.


Several wineries and vineyards throughout Maryland and Virginia will be pouring their best varietals tomorrow, Thursday, July 4th, some along with food, live musical performances, and Fourth of July fireworks once the sun goes down.  Admittance for each of the below-listed venues is either free or inexpensive.  You can check out the vineyard links for details.

Live music featuring Cherry Bud
Join this vineyard and winery for an afternoon of wine, music and corn hole. Bring a picnic lunch and kick back from 1pm to 4pm.

Charis Winery
Wine Down 4th of July Celebration
Celebrate the 4th of July from 6pm to 9:45pm with the Chinese Bandits Music a glass of wine and closing out with an awesome fireworks display!

Knob Hall Winery
July 4th with Bluegrass
Live music featuring The Speak Easy Boys
Spend the afternoon of July 4th soaking up live Bluegrass from the Speak Easy Boys, who’ll command the stage from 2:30pm to 4:30pm.

Running Hare Vineyard
4th of July in the Vineyard
Live music featuring Matt Zimmerman
Come to the vineyard and spend a relaxing 4th of July enjoying Matt Zimmerman’s unique blend of Rock, Blues, Folk, Jazz, Classical, and Bluegrass from 12 noon to 4:00pm. Pack a picnic and bring some friends.
Cost: $5 per person (includes wine tasting. Tasting room is open from 12 noon to 6:00pm)


James River Cellars Winery
Independence Day Wine and Cheese Pairing
Celebrate the holiday with special wine and cheese pairings. $10 per person offers tastes of different cheeses with award winning wines.

Peaks of Otter Winery
Red, White and You at Peaks of Otter Winery 
Bring your own glass, purchase a souvenir glass or taste out of a free plastic cup as you sample this winery’s “Chili Dawg” apple-pepper wine from 12 noon to 5pm. View details on Facebook.

Stinson Vineyards
4th of July Tailgatin’ Shindig (with BBQ from The Blue Ridge Pig)
Live music featuring the  Chickenhead Blues Band
Chickenhead Blues Band is Charlottesville’s premiere boogie-woogie, up beat, rhythm and blues dance band!  They’ll be rocking the vineyard from 6pm to 9pm to celebrate the Fourth as well as Stinson’s 2nd anniversary!  The Blue Ridge Pig will be on hand too, serving up BBQ pork sandwich platters with coleslaw, baked beans, and potato salad between 6pm and 8pm. Bring the kids, the dogs, and everyone you know!
Cost: $0 cover, but BBQ platters are $12.50 each
