Virginia’s Boozicles, McDonald’s Japan’s 1,000-yen Quarter Pounder, A PB&J Shake, and The 31 Days of German Riesling

Flavorful World’s Friday Fourplay offers up a bite-sized tidbit of info on each of the four food- and drink-related things we found most interesting each week.

Boozicle

A nice chilled cocktail or mixed drink on a warm summer day is a beautiful thing.  Having one on a stick is a kind of bliss every loving heart deserves to experience at least once in life after reaching legal drinking age.  Any arguments to the contrary are irrelevant.  Virginia’s Bayou Bakery appears to agree with me, as evidenced by its having rolled out a line of liquor-laced popsicles in flavors like Bananas Foster and Screwberry, with plans to offer a revolving roster throughout the summer.  Cool summer, indeed.

The 1,000-yen Premium Quarter Pounder

Available for a single day beginning on July 6th, 2013, with a new one available for purchase every seven days afterward, these “premium” QP’s from McDonald’s Japan come topped with the likes of black truffle sauce and chorizo. Costing about $9.93 USD independently of any fries or beverage accompaniment, the sandwiches have gemstone/precious metal-themed names like the Gold Ring (available only on July 6th), the Black Diamond (available only on July 13th), and the Ruby Spark (available only on July 20th).  Addition of fries and a soda for an additional 200 yen ($1.98 USD) make the meal a “Jewelry Set,” but remembering the old adage about all that glitters, it remains to be seen whether or not the public will want to put a ring on this somewhat expensive promotion.

PB & J Milkshake

From now through September 30th, 2013, nationwide burger franchise Smashburger is offering people who counted peanut butter and jelly sandwiches among their favorite childhood snacks the chance to suck a bit of nostalgia through a straw. Its PB&J Milkshake is made with crushed Nutter Butter cookies (accounting for the shake’s PB flavor) and strawberry syrup (apparently, tasting more like J than some grape-flavored accoutrement that surely must exist). These, blended with Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream, make for a handspun treat that, with summer in full swing, has arrived just at the right time for those who never could get enough peanut butter-jelly time.
