In September of 1984, the first Maryland Wine Festival was held. This year on Saturday, September 21st and Sunday, September 22nd, the annual event celebrates its 30th anniversary at the Carroll County Farm Museum in Westminster, Maryland.

Called “The state’s premier showcase of Maryland wineries and their wines” by Maryland Wineries Association executive director Kevin Atticks, the event will feature 40 Maryland wineries, along with food, crafts, demonstrations  by wine experts and artisans, and live music on two stages.

Samplings of 30 award-winning premium small-production wines accompanied by catered gourmet fare will be offered inside the festival’s exclusive Premier Tent to which only 400 Premier Passes will be available per day. With entry to the Premier Tent, one also receives a 16-oz. wine glass for sampling, and the opportunity to interact with winemakers present to speak on their products.

So, to recap: Award-winning wines. Winemaker presentations. Live entertainment. Gourmet food. Sounds like a weekend to me.

Get reduced-cost tickets in advance online, or buy them at standard price on-site the day of the event. General admission is $30 the day of, or $27 in advance, with Premier Tent tickets $65 on the day, or $62 when purchased in advance. Designated driver (non-drinker) and children’s (ages 13-20) tickets are $20. Visit MarylandWineFestival.org for more details.
