Flavorful World’s Friday Fourplay offers up a bite-sized tidbit of info on each of the four food- and drink-related things we found most interesting each week.
The Fried Beer Burger
Okay, we all knew this was coming. We might not have known when or whence or how, but surely this entry surprises precious few reading it. Philadelphia’s PYT did the honors, and dubbed its creation “The Beerger” (take that, sworn enemies of the pun.) Made by shrouding a frozen portion of beer in sharp cheddar cheese slices and wonton shells before deep-frying it and placing it atop a beef burger, it sounds so wrong that it surely must be right, which is why I salute this burger and totally want it to hang at my house on weekends.
Dominique Ansel Christmas Morning Cereal
Breakfast cereals with marshmallows in them are so passé. A cereal made of Valrhona Caramelia chocolate puffed rice and filled with cinnamon meringues and sugar brittle is what’s up these days, and NYC’s Dominique Ansel Bakery is where the party is. Currently, available only for pick up and only on specified date (generally, 2 days after one orders it), DAB’s “Christmas Cereal” goes for $15 and is said to top ice cream just as skillfully as it swims in cold milk.
TV Dinner Like Gatsby
The “Swish Pie,” UK ready-made meal producer Charlie Bigham’s latest creation, will lighten one’s billfold to the pi-inspired tune of £314.16. That price tag doesn’t just buy a meal of vintage Dom Perignon-poached fish topped with lobster tails and edible gold crumbs. it also gets the food delivered to you in an aluminum case handcuffed to the wrist of a professional security guard. No word yet on whether providing some cash-strapped individual to chew the food for you is included in the cost.

Cabbages and Condoms
I know how it sounds upon first hearing, and no, that title isn’t a grocery list belonging to the responsible rabbit living in your backyard garden. Cabbages and Condoms is the name of a restaurant in Thailand founded by Mechai Viravaidya, a safe sex activist and community outreach program founder seeking to promote acceptance and understanding of family planning. After partaking of its menu of delicious curries and noodle dishes, diners are given condoms upon conclusion of their meals (in place of the boring breath mints or chocolates less imaginative eateries are apt to bestow.) Proving to have thought of everything, Viravaidya also has an arrangement with the family-planning clinic situated next door to his restaurant: free vasectomies for male restaurant patrons.
