Flavorful World’s Friday Fourplay offers up a bite-sized tidbit of info on each of the four food- and drink-related things we found most interesting each week.
We All Scream for Pizza
Convenient and cooked-to-order in 130 locations worldwide, this is an idea so simple and elegant, that I can type without a trace of irony that I’d consider it to be ingenious. Pizza dough gets baked into attractive and easily handheld cones. These get filled with traditional pizza ingredients and toppings (or in the case of the equally-if-not-more intriguing KonoDulce sweet varieties, with dessert options like custard, puffed rice, cereals, and chocolate cream.) KonoPizza is expanding all the time, so here’s hoping one will soon open in this neck of the woods, or in yours.
O, High-Protein Recovery Ale
Lean Machine‘s website touts it as an “ultra-premium beer with natural flavors, essential vitamins, and minerals.” Packing seven vitamins, seven grams of protein, and only 77 calories per serving, it’s intended to be an alcoholic post-workout beverage that’s not only acceptable, but encouraged. Although it’s not yet available for purchase (though investors are currently being sought,) the idea seems a timely one. I am officially on the edge of my workbench, watching with anticipation to see it come to fruition.
Chef Hironori Ikeno claims to have started prepping miniature sushi as a joke with a customer before continuing to challenge himself with how small he could take things. Today, he’s garnering acclaim from customers at his restaurant Nohachi claiming his sushi packs quite the flavorful punch, for each piece being created using only a single grain of rice. Oh, Japan. You just keep throwing down culinary gauntlets long after I’ve promised you my stomach.
Marmite-Stuffed Crust Pizza
I have yet to taste Marmite (though it is on my “To-Do” list along with a host of other food items not necessarily right down the street at my local grocery,) so I won’t editorialize beyond saying I wonder what sort of public outcry drove the creation of this recently-debuted Pizza Hut New Zealand offering. I wonder too, what ideas were rejected in favor of it. Whatever the answer to these and any number of other questions one might pose, one thing is certain: CheeZee Marmite Stuffed Crust Pizza now exists, and there’s nothing any of us can do about it.
