Tabañero Hot Sauce Picante is 100% all natural, made using the freshest ingredients from Tabasco, Mexico. I was excited to sample it for the purposes of this review. More exciting is that I’ve come away from this reviewing experience with a new favorite hot sauce.
This sauce has more than one unique aspect when measured against other sauces of its kind. Its flavor relies more heavily on influences from the carrots, onions, garlic, key lime juice, agave nectar and red habanero peppers that go into its blend than on vinegar. Indeed, the fact that Tabañero hot sauce is not vinegar-based, subbing in key lime juice in place of it, is refreshing. It allowed me to fully appreciate its more vegetal taste qualities, to the extent that any heat my palate derived from it was nearly an afterthought.
This shouldn’t suggest that the heat is in any way lacking. Its representation among the other taste sensations is more than adequate and not to be dismissed. The presence of more flavors interacting than I’ve typically found in a hot sauce picante doesn’t overshadow that there’s some serious fire happening, as it goes anytime habanero peppers are invited to the party. The heat and the unique flavor palette work in tandem to create a robust sauce that does what a sauce should do: enhance the flavor of food rather than mask it.
Voted US Foods 2012 Rookie of the Year, this product does not disappoint with regard to hear or flavor. Anyone who thinks hot sauce is just hot sauce would do well to give Tabañero Hot Sauce Picante a try.
