That Time I Reviewed A Quesadilla Maker For “25 Days of IMUSA Giveaways”

Quesadilla Maker-Hi Res

Reviewer’s Note: A sample of the product discussed here was provided to me for reviewing purposes at no cost.

Giveaway. There’s a giveaway today. And tomorrow. And the day after that and the day after that and so on.

Have I got your attention?

Good. Hang with me for a moment.

The day I received notification that I’d been selected to participate in IMUSA‘s 25 Days of Giveaways by reviewing the company’s Quesadilla Maker, my mind raced with recipe ideas. I knew I wanted to do something that stepped away from the usual filling ingredients, but beyond that, I was hamstrung not by a lack of ideas, but by a swelling tide of them. There were too many things running through my head for me to even categorize them, much less commit to any. I feared that the next idea, the one just out of conscious reach, would be the better idea, and that if I just sat back a while longer, it would present itself. Well, two such ideas, to my good fortune, did come. And while the two quesadillas I came up with are hardly the only way to begin, they did present me with a starting point for what is certain to be a long, happy friendship with this product.

The first thing I noted about this machine was that it could not be easier to use. It bears only two indicator lights by way of interactive features: one signifying that it is on, and the other that it is hot and ready to receive tortillas and fillings.

Able to accommodate tortillas up to 9 inches wide, the product’s non-stick cooking plates heated evenly and quickly. Within 5 minutes of closing its locking lid, I found myself retrieving from the device quesadillas with crisp, sealed edges and hot fillings swimming in thoroughly melted cheese.

First run: I loaded this quesadilla with thin-sliced pancetta, Gruyère cheese, and sweet mango chutney, serving it with a dish of cooling guacamole

Besides its ability to deliver perfect crunch and melting, this machine also has two useful and notable features that further simplify using it. The device comes with an accompanying recipe book filled with meal inspirations. It also scores the quesadilla as it cooks it, resulting in faint but visible lines along which to cut the finished article, resulting every time in six slices of equal size.

Swift follow-up: The second time around, I stuffed it with sliced chicken jalapeño meatballs, Fontina cheese, and refried beans, opting to accompany my masterpiece with fresh, hot salsa.

In terms of performance, I found IMUSA’s Quesadilla Maker to be perhaps the most impressive device of its kind that I have ever used (It even managed to earn high praise from New Mexico born-and-raised Southwestern/Mexican cuisine snob authority, Mrs. Flavorful World.) Equipped with a handy drip tray and the ability to stand upright on its edge for easy, spacesaving storage, I can say with confidence that it is a welcome addition to the Flavorful World test kitchen, and would likely make a welcome addition to yours as well, not to mention an awesome gift for the home cook you love.

So, this brings us to the aforementioned giveaway. It’s holiday season, and that has placed IMUSA in a giving mood. Through December, it is promoting “25 Days of IMUSA Giveaways,” an event that finds IMUSA giving away one great product every day from the 1st through the 25th. Today, December 12th, the Quesadilla Maker is the item being given away.

You see where I’m going with this now?  Good. Read on…
