Flavorful World’s Friday Fourplay offers up a bite-sized tidbit of info on each of the four food- and drink-related things we found most interesting each week.
Beer Pong? Quidditch, Please!
Looking for a pastime that’ll enhance your geek cred and your drinking game prowess in one fell swoop? Then the Unofficial Quidditch Pong set was made for you. Or maybe you were made for it. We don’t want to get bogged down in semantics. Here’s what you need to know: it’s made to be played in Hogwarts house-themed teams (Hello, Slytherin!), comes with magic-based rules for players to use against opponents, and includes 3 Quidditch rings, 2 bats, 1 snitch, and a snitch cup in addition to 3 ping-pong balls and 20 cups. Let the beer and the Death Eater accusations flow.

Last year we saw cakes that transformed, levitated, and even masqueraded as bowls of tuna sashimi. Just when we thought cake couldn’t get any trippier, Baker CharlotteSometimes proves us wrong. We begin 2016 with a look at this cake that’s been iced and airbrushed in a precision manner resulting in it changing color depending on the angle from which you view it. Here’s hoping this technique doesn’t become 2016’s version of “The Dress.” (No, I’m not linking to it. You know which dress.) [Video courtesy of CharlotteSometimes YouTube channel]
About (Foodie) Face
Many has been the time that I’ve been so frustrated, angry, or otherwise bummed that I’ve thought to myself, “I’m so (expletive), I’d love to just (expletive) eat someone’s (expletive) face right now.” (Yeah, I know, I swear a lot in my head, so sue me. And I ocasionally indulge negative emotion-driven cannibalistic fantasies. Sue me twice.) Next time the urge strikes me, I think I’ll reach for “Fresh Faces,” a photo series by photographers Emily Dryden and Zahydé Pietri. The series consists of portraits featuring fruits, vegetables, and flowers strategically arranged to resemble human faces. It’s compelling in terms of the photographic as well as the food artistry that went into the endeavor, and dare I say, tasteful (pun, for once, genuinely unintended.)

I’m the first one to admit that my affection for pizza ventures beyond the platonic, into some strange realm best left unexplored here beyond saying that it could be the stuff of some really disturbing fan fiction if I were so inclined. Still, this line of pizza-inspired wearables from Pizza Hut gives me pause. I’ll avoid obvious jokes related to it being “cheesy” or referencing any “saucy” items, because that’s no way to start a new year. But for those looking to slide their feet into a pair of pepperoni-peppered socks, or shrug into a t-shirt that declares their ‘za philosophies to the world: has the Hut got some casualwear for you.
