If, like me, you have a soul-deep, undying appreciation for Japanese cuisine, and if, like me, everything that it encompasses holds a special place of esteem in your heart and stomach, then the name of talented Chef Rika Yukimasa will be well-known to you.

For those of you reading her name for the first time, Chef Rika is the co-host of NHK WORLD TV signature lifestyle and cooking program, Dining with the Chef. She’s earned a worldwide reputation for her culinary artistry, which is put on regular display in the series, as Chef Rika demonstrates original Japanese recipes in a way that makes them seem accessible and attainable to viewers, while enlightening viewers the world over about the various aspects and nuances of Japanese food culture.

Chef Rika’s easy-to-prepare Japanese-style recipes run the gamut from healthy and inventive back-to-school lunch box fare like her Edamame, Tomato and Mozzarella Salad, Tonkatsu Sandwiches, and the California Roll Trio pictured here…

…to putting an inventive Eastern spin on tailgating foods for game day (it’s officially college football season, y’all, with the start NFL season not far behind) like her Kushiage Deep Fried Skewers or Marinated Chicken with Soy Sauce & Wasabi. Check it…

Even if you’re not such an adventurous eater, she’s got you covered with items like Grilled Tofu with Miso Sauce

…and even a Fish-Free Hand Rolled Sushi that spares our aquatic friends in favor of ground chicken…

A self-described “cooking researcher,” Chef Rika is, in this eater’s opinion, more like a cooking rock star who uses her original techniques to do good in the world: that is, to spread Japanese-style cooking love.

“So”, you’re probably wondering, “Why are you telling us all this, you strange man who sounds like he needs to get off the computer and go eat?”

Well, aside, from getting to dish on a respected culinary professional whose television program I’ve long watched (and you’re right, I do need to go eat something), because The Taste LA is coming. It kicks off tomorrow, September 2nd, and runs through September 5th.

“That didn’t share any information at all! We’re as confused as ever! Do you even know where you are?”, you’re probably thinking. But it’s all about to come together. You know I don’t go on aimless walks…

You see, Chef Rika’s taking her considerable talents on the road: she’s coming to THE TASTE LA food festival in Los Angeles, California, where on Sunday, September 4th, she will hold a demonstration of the cooking talents that have earned the Fukuoka, Japan native international renown. Besides her having published 49 food and lifestyle books (with no few best sellers among them), Chef Rika also owns and operates a steakhouse in Ginza, Tokyo. (Oh, yeah, you read that right, and now you want to go there as much as I do, right?)

Chef Rika’s The Taste LA demo is going down from 12:15pm to 12:45pm on Sunday, September 4th, located at the Acura Culinary Stage. Also on the menu will be special gift giveaways to those who swing by her booth and/or demonstration.

Are you not entertained? Intrigued? Hungry enough to eat your weight in Japanese fare crafted by a world-famous chef?  Then enjoy more dishes from Chef Rika’s televised exploits at https://www.nhk.or.jp/dwc/cuisine/.
