A few weeks ago, we reported on the world’s most expensive taco that was crafted in such manner as to make it synonymous with opulence. The distinctive delicacy served exclusively at the Grand Velas Los Cabos was made with lobster, Kobe beef, black truffle brie cheese, and Almas Beluga caviar loaded into a gold flake-infused soft corn tortilla , and that was before you even got to the salsa inside it, made from dried Morita peppers, Ley .925 Añejo tequila, and kopi luwak coffee beans. By the time the final garnish was placed, its price tag would total $25,000.
Now, as then, the creation of such an extravagant offering tends to incite questions with regard to its inspiration, its execution, and who among us has been fortunate enough to purchase and experience what is without a doubt a once-in-a-lifetime experience on a plate. Come April 28th, the questions weighing on the minds of envious onlookers will be whether it will sell for above “sticker” price, and what, for the love of guac, does the thing actually taste like?
Friday, April 28th, 2017 is the day when the world’s priciest taco will be offered up as a prize at a benefit for the Los Cabos Children’s Foundation, a not-for-profit focused on the health of children in Los Cabos and the Southern Baja Peninsula. The taco’s not coming alone, either; its plus-one will be a shot of Tequila Ley .925 (sold on an average day for $3.5 million). The bottle of tequila—which you better believe will be insured—and the headlining taco will be paraded through the resort, surrounded by a phalanx of security guards, with the bottle resting upon a velvet pillow like a royal heirloom.
Money made on ticket sales for the event, along with proceeds from raffle tickets, will go to the Foundation in a figure that organizers project could exceed the taco’s standard $25K price tag. All tickets will be entered in a drawing with the raffle winner getting the taco and the tequila shot.
The event’s happening at 7:00 pm on April 28th, 2017 at the Grand Velas Los Cabos. Tickets are $60 per person (includes one raffle ticket), with additional raffle tickets, offered exclusively to ticket-holding attendees, going for $30 each.
