Spanish Restaurant Azurmendi Tops Elite Traveler’s 2017 Best in the World

Luxury private jet title Elite Traveler, in association with Grey Goose, has named the world’s 100 best dining destinations for 2017. In its sixth annual poll of its readers, the magazine awarded top honors to Chef Eneko Atxa’s three Michelin-starred restaurant Azurmendi for the first time, a significant win that topples Chef Grant Achatz’s five-time champion establishment Alinea. On receiving the award, a delighted Atxa said: “This recognition means a lot, as many of the voters would be people who have visited our restaurant.”

Spain wasn’t the only country with something to celebrate. Five of the best restaurants on the planet right now are located in the UK, with The Fat Duck taking honors as its highest-placing entry and Nottingham-based Sat Bains debuting at 94th place. Paris, France claimed eight of the 100 slots. And while an impressive 18 total French restaurants were included in this year’s cream of the crop, the U.S. ran the table again this year with 24 total establishments listed, five of those placing in the Top Ten, and ten of the 24 located in New York.
