Earlier this month, we had the opportunity to review several samples of cocktail bitters sent to us courtesy of The Bitter Truth. This recipe is one of my first satisfying efforts at an original cocktail recipe to come out of that sampling experience. Here, the sweetness of black cherries and crème de violette are joined by a tart jolt of Ruby Red grapefruit vodka and mitigating botanical essences, laced with the subtle hints of cinnamon and chocolate that the bitters contribute. A pleasing, sangria-like sweetness level makes this a cocktail that’s fun to make and even more fun to drink. Enjoy it by the glass or by the pitcher.
Cherry Grapefruit Chill (Serves 2)
- 3 oz. black cherry juice
- 2 oz. Ruby Red Grapefruit-infused vodka
- 1 oz. Crème de Violette
- 1.5 oz. extra dry vermouth
- 2 dashes The Bitter Truth Jerry Thomas’ Own Decanter Bitters
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds. Strain into chilled stemless red wine glass.
