First Annual Mixology Match @ D.C.’s Cuba Libre on Tuesday, September 12th

D.C.-area visitors and residents looking to get a little tight on Tuesday, September 12th, 2017 won’t have to look far to find a fun evening of cocktails and good things to chew.

From 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. that night, Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar will partner with The Cocktail Nation to host a fundraising cocktail competition. Eight of the city’s leading mixologists will go at one another, each tasked with creating a cocktail using a specific brand of rum from categories like 100% sugar cane, añejo, dark, flavored, spiced, or white. The signature libations will be evaluated by an expert judging panel before being voted upon by event attendees who will also get to sample each cocktail. A grand prize of $400 (that includes a shiny trophy and national publication feature heralding the winner’s victory) and $200 runner-up prize will go to the judges’ selections for the top and second-place creations, with a $200 prize going to the cocktail that takes the popular vote.

This event marks the restaurant’s first foray into fundraising for national 501(c)3 charity CORE (Children of Restaurant Employees), whose mission is to grant support to the children of food and beverage service families navigating life-altering circumstances.  Since its 2004 inception, CORE has raised more than $2M to help over 165 children from families across the industry and the country.

Ticket cost of $40 per person includes unlimited samples of the eight competing cocktails, along with passed canapés, a trio of food stations, and non-alcoholic beverages provided by Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar.  Signature dishes to be served include Mamá Amelia’s Empanadas, Arroz con Pollo, Frituras de Maiz con Cangrejo, Croquetas de Pollo, Spinach & Manchego Buñuelos, Albóndigas Cubanas, Octopus a La Parilla, Tres Leches Roto and Cuban Flan.  Summer cocktail attire is encouraged for all guests.

Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar is located at 801 9th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20001; Phone (202) 408-1600.  For additional information, visit Purchase tickets online at:
